Competitive Stream

Best Sports Photographer

Gold

Highest level of commitment – aiming for State, NSWIS and Australian Teams and Camps. Extremely goal oriented and very committed to the sport of swimming. Will have a high skill level in main events.

  • Preferred to have an Australian Open and Age qualifying time, NSW State Open qualifying time, Australian or NSW State 13-18 Final.
  • Attendance Reputation of 95% (half age in swim sessions and  2-3 dry land sessions per week)
  • Excellent training ability and up to squad standards (Coaches Discretion)
  • High skill level in racing – especially main events
  • Leaders of our positive values and Abbotsleigh team culture
  • Ownership in all aspects of training and racing
  • Compulsory  to join Abbotsleigh swim club and race at swim club and  external meets

Black

Commitment to the sport of swimming as a first sport. Aiming for SMNE and junior NSW squads and teams. Aim to move into Gold, and option to move across into Swim Fit.

  • Preferred to have a National Age 13/U qualifying time and State Age and Metro qualifying time
  • Attendance reputation of 95% (half age in sessions and 1 – 2 dry land sessions per week)
  • Training ability to squad standards (Coaches discretion)
  • Attention to Racing and Technical skills
  • Adopting our positive values and Abbotsleigh team culture.
  • Compulsory to join Abbotsleigh swim club and race at swim club and external meets

White

The first of our serious competitive squad training – focusing on race skills and stroke refinement whilst developing a great training ethic. Aim to move into Black, and option to move across to Swim Fit or Senior Challenge.

  • Preferred to have a SMNE, Metro and State 12/U qualifying time
  • Attendance reputation 95% (half age in sessions and 1-2 dry land sessions per week)
  • Sound technique in 3-4 strokes
  • Aiming to develop a higher level of stroke technique and skills
  • Training ability to squad standards (Coaches discretion)
  • Adopting our positive values and Abbotsleigh team culture.
  • Compulsory to join Abbotsleigh swim club and race at swim club and external meets

Please note:

  • Group dynamics, training ability and training maturity will come into play when selecting the right squad for the athlete.
  • Transitions into the squad above may occur before a full promotion in order to ease swimmers in to the increased workloads.
  • The competitive stream squad guidelines will change as the program evolves. Essentially the bar will raise on each group as we progress and grow.

Pre Competitive Stream

State Age Champs 2013 12 under

Junior Challenge: a squad for those showing competent swimming skills. 

  • Begin to increase endurance
  • Consolidate all 4 strokes
  • Develop racing skills.

Aim to move into White (option to move to Senior Challenge)

  • Displaying a high level of skill relative to age in 3 – 4 strokes
  • Recommended attendance of 3 – 4 per week
  • Encouraged to join swim club and begin racing for Abbotsleigh at swim club and external meets

Marlins:  First squad out of Learn to swim stream.

  • Learn coaching drills
  • training etiquette
  •  Up skill on all 4 strokes.

Aim to move into Junior Challenge (Option to move into Senior Challenge)

  • Ideally complete  50 meters of Fr, Bk and Br and 25 meters of fly with sound technique
  • Session emphasis on skills, drills, kick and technique with introduction to speed
  • Encouraged to join Abbotsleigh swim club and participate on Wednesday night club nights. This is a great opportunity for young swimmers to experience their first competition in our friendly club environment.

Non Competitive Stream

State Age Champs 2013 12 under

Senior Challenge: A challenging squad for skilled swimmers.

  • Focus on fitness and technique
  • Must be competent in all 4 strokes and aim to improve technique and speed
  • Session total: Optional
  • Welcome to join swim club and begin racing for Abbotsleigh  Swim club and external meets. (Swim club is a great opportunity to prepare for school carnival racing)
  • This is the squad to Identified IGSSA swimmers not in existing program

Swim Fit: A squad for those swimmers wishing to swim for fitness, other sports or just for fun.

  • Competent in all 4 strokes and aim to improve technique, fitness & speed
  • Work well in a squad environment
