Farewell to Coach Chris

A big thanks and a sad farewell to our Abbotsleigh Junior Coach of 8 years – Chris Austin. Chris and his family, have decided to relocate up north. Chris has provided coaching to a large range of swimmers over the years. Whilst his experience is at all levels, he has spent the last part of his time in White Squad. Chris has assisted to prepare ABB athletes and parents, as they progress through our program. Chris is about to start a new chapter of his life, which is great. We wish him all the best and are grateful for all his efforts for our Swimming Club.

NSW State Age Championships

Congratulations Team Abb! What a great week of swimming we have experienced!

Congratulations to all members of Team Abb for a wonderful week of racing. The past week is a team effort. I would like to thank all parents and families involved in making the past week happen. There are weeks of dedication throughout the season and especially the week of competition. I appreciate the choices you have had to make, to support having the Championships in December.

Thank you to our swimmers, who are amazing young people. I learn from them every day and love watching them Dare themselves in each race. We are fortunate to have such a colourful and fun group of swimmers. It was great to see everyone supporting each other throughout the meet and the enjoyment on swimmers faces is what this is all about. I enjoyed my first 10×50 relay too, very exciting stuff.

Thank you to Cameron for his efforts with 12/under team and 13-18 years (and the 10×50, solid effort). Cam has settled in well to Team Abb and has made a strong impact with his squad and the Club, in such a short time. Well done Cam, it’s been great working with you this year. I look forward to your coaching continue to blossom in the new year. Thank you to Chris Austin, who has held the fort throughout the year. I appreciate your efforts and the success at State Championships belongs to you too.

Thank you to our Swim Committee, past and present, and our special Team managers from Camp Noosa, who we were very fortunate to have with us. It’s been a fun 7 months. Enjoy your Christmas celebrations, keep active over the break and get refreshed and ready to take on 2017 with strong intent. See you in the new year.

ABB Juniors Camp Report

On the 26th and 27th of September a number of our Junior Athletes took part in the Abb Juniors Camp held at Abbotsleigh Aquatic Centre.

Swimmers learnt the importance of activation and routine around both training and racing. Had the chance to work on stroke technique and building their stroke around body position in the water. They participated in team building activities and became expert critical thinkers with applying themselves to riddles and problem solving. They then got to see themselves in action each afternoon with filming for each stoke and individual feedback.

On Day 2, the swimmers got the opportunity to spend time with Olympian Travis Mahoney. They were able to hear his story before asking all the important questions, like what his favourite lollies were, or telling him about how they hold all but one of the swimming records at school.

The swimmers finally had the opportunity to test themselves in a different way, at District 3 with Dodgem Cars and Laser Tag.

At the end of the 2 days there were some very tired bodies heading home, with a lot of knowledge to apply to their swimming in the future.

A big thank you to Jacqui for her efforts with lunch on both days.
