SMNE Summer Championships

I am happy to report a well-attended weekend from Abbotsleigh. Generally speaking the coaches and I are super happy with the majority of the swimmers and how they conducted themselves and how they raced. Our relays placed very well even without our fastest teams entered. Another great fact was that every swimmer that raced earnt points for Abbotsleigh thus it was truly a team effort this weekend.

We do hope all the swimmers got the following out of the meet:

  1. Learnt where they are currently at in order to know what they need to do to improve
  2. Practiced racing
  3. Enjoyed racing
  4. Enjoyed hanging out with each other
  5. Learnt some self – sufficiency skills around warm up, cool down and race readiness.
  6. Gained good race feedback from the coaches

Continuing on with our swimmers of the meet tradition, I am proud to announce the following winners from each of the squads:

White Squad

Sammy Cox Great training ethic leading into the meet, great warm up and cool down attitude, great race plan execution – especially in her 100BK in which she achieved her very first State time. Congratulations Sammy.

Sebastian King Sebby was very interactive and very focused. He is putting in the effort in training, using the coaches to learn and aiming high with his goals. Sebby was a pleasure to coach this weekend. He also pulled off some well-deserved PB’s. Well done boy!

Black Squad

Georgia O’Connor For the most consistent results and definitely working towards version 2.0 of herself. Great energy on deck, professional warmups and cool downs and her first ever stroke rate of 46!! Giggle Giggle.

Abby Feurtado For being the relay queen – meaning swimming over a second faster in each of her legs in the relay than her individual events. It’s wonderful to see her giving it all for her team.

Gold Squad

Becca St Vincent Our biggest point scorer with a grand total of 144! Becca was an absolute trooper this weekend. Race after race and gave 100% in all. E.G. Becca jumped straight out of the 400IM into a relay. She is a real team player and a serious swimmer.

Rani West Rani swam her guts out. Not the fittest swimmer in the pool but ]definitely the toughest. Every race she really put her body on the line and genuinely wanted to know where she was at so she knew what she needs to do next. Well done Rani – Smiling all through the pain too.

All our winners receive a $25 voucher from the Aqua Shop.

Lastly once again thank you to the parents and the committee for their input into this weekend! Our next club onslaught is the Lane Cove meet on Sunday November 22nd. Please get the entries in!
